Using a Self Tanner

1. Do Some Practice First

Often, first-timers are nervous when using a tanning product for the first time. If you want to be safe, we suggest that you opt for a one-day tanner. This will help you get a better idea of what your skin would look like after the first application. If you are still worried, you can use a regular tanner and remove it after a couple of hours. Make sure you wash it off before the color is completely developed.

2. Get Access to the required Tools

While most self-tanners come in one bottle, you need a few tools as well. For instance, you may want to get a skin moisturizer, an exfoliator, a tanning mitt, and wet wipes, to name a few. So, make sure you gather all of the tools you need for this job.

3. Exfoliate Before Tanning

If you want an even color, make sure you get a smooth canvas. It’s even better to shave or wax at least 24 hours before the use of the tan. The reason is that the hair removal may cause some irritation in addition to make your skin a bit sensitive. So, it’s a good idea to exfoliate your skin a day before the tanning job. This will help you remove some dead skin as well.

Also, before you apply the tanning product, you should run a bit of ice over the target areas in order to constrict the pores and hair follicles.

4. Prepare the Problem Areas of your skin

Before applying the self-tan, make sure you watch out for the dry areas or areas with breakouts. Don’t forget to use a moisturizer barrier on certain areas, such as your hands, feet and joints. This will help you prevent those areas from getting darker. Moreover, you should apply a bit of moisturizer with the help of a cotton ball to the areas affected with eczema or acne.

5. Don’t worry about using too much of the product

For the first time, you may hesitate to apply a lot of the solution. You don’t have to be hesitant. Make sure you use enough of the solution so that it glides without any effort on the skin. You don’t need to worry about using too much of the product as your skin won’t absorb more than a certain amount of the solution.

Makeup Last All Day

Primer

Primer is a base coat for all your makeup. Use primer on both your face and eyes. It helps prevent creasing of makeup and is a great way of making your makeup last longer. There are many primers out there depending on your requirements and preferences. Whether you want one with shine or a matte one, all sorts of primers are there for different skin types.

Always apply foundation first

Many women tend to apply concealer first and then their foundation. This is a wrong approach, reason being, how both of them are applied. Concealer is applied in dabbing motion, while the foundation is dragged and blended on the entire face. Also Use an oil-free foundation. If you apply concealer first then, the whole concealer will be dragged with the foundation which will result in uneven makeup application.

Remove excess oil

Even though extra oily and moisturized skin has its benefits of reduced wrinkles and fine lines, but they give the appearance of greasy skin. No makeup looks good or lasts long if your skin is oily; it only results in the makeup smudging. Always keep face powder and blotting paper with you so that you can keep removing oil and shine off from your skin. This step will not only will your makeup last longer but will also ensure that your makeup looks good.

Avoid touching your face

We literally use our hands all the time because of which a lot of dirt and oil gets accumulated on our hands. If you have a habit of touching your face a lot then you are transferring those oil and dirt onto your face. By avoiding touching your face you get to minimize the oil on your face and keep your makeup intact. The more you touch your face, the more the makeup will come off, resulting in ruined makeup and makeup coming off sooner. If you have a habit of touching your face then you can use a setting spray, this will decrease your urge to touch your face also keep your makeup in place.

Using the right tools

If you think that having all the best products will result in great long lasting makeup then you are mistaken. Makeup tools are equally important as makeup products that affect the duration of your makeup. Using quality brushes and sponges will ensure good coverage and blended makeup.

Loose powder

Using loose powder for setting makeup is a great option when you don’t want to feel like you’ve added something extra to your skin. A small amount of loose powder goes a long way with a brush and reduces oil and shine on your skin. Also you can Layer your cream or liquid based products with a matching powder.

Use Hair Dryer Properly

Before blow-dry styling

Blow-dry your hair upside-down on a low heat. This allows you to pre-dry the strands at the nape of the neck and lift your hair at the roots. This will give volume to your hair and will reduce the time it takes for you to dry your hair at a high temperature.

Adjust the settings to suit your hair type

To make your hairdryer as effective as possible, select the heat and power settings according to your hair type. A medium temperature is enough for thick hair. However, use a cooler setting if your hair is fine or damaged. Consider adjusting the heat and power of the air flow as well: start on a low temperature and on maximum power (suited to your hair), then move on to a higher temperature while decreasing the speed. This is a great tip for creating movement. When you’re drying your hair it is very important because more heat can be damaged your hair, so be careful.

To speed up blow-drying

Turn up the power rather than the heat. However, be wary of doing this if your hair is fine or weakened, as you may find yourself getting your hair tangled. Pinpoint the right accessories.

Want poker straight locks?

Add a concentrator nozzle. It will direct the air onto a small section of hair at a time. Style your hair at a high temperature to make your locks supple and malleable. Complete your blow-dried style strand by strand, starting at the nape of the neck and brushing downwards from the roots down to the tips. Following the brush with the hairdryer as you go.
